Our Resurrection, The Glorious Truth (L049)

The apostle Paul said, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6 v23)

So, what is eternal life like? Well, first we will be raised from the dead, that is if we died before Jesus returns. He give us new bodies , possibly a younger version than we had when we died. We will go to stand before Jesus Christ, pain free and amazingly mobile, if our last few years had been spent in a wheelchair. We go first for judgment, God is not willing that any should perish,( 11 Peter 3 v 9) so as long as we want to serve the LORD eternally, Jesus said, “There shall not an hair of your head perish. in your patience possess ye your souls.” (Luke 21 v 18, 19). The judgment will only be a shock for the hypocrites (read Matthew 8 v 5 to 13)

Jesus will give all he loves newly enlivened bodies fresh and strong, with no longer blood coursing through our veins and arteries, but the spirit of God. Jesus told his disciples “handle me and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me have.” (Luke 24 v 39 see also 1 Corinthians 15 v 50 “flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.” We will have immortal bodies) Our new bodies will be fresh and strong able to run like a deer, and indestructible, so we help the Lord Jesus to establish the Kingdom of over the whole world.

We will eat really enjoying real things, and the disciples are invited to banquet with the Lord Jesus, healthy people with happy lives knowing the will of God for this earth, and being part of the organisation to put His will into effect.

This gift of God, is like all free offers, you must follow the instructions, then only you can receive the free gift, it is a personal calling to be part of God’s family. This means that firstly you have to trust Jesus, that he can and will do all this for you. Secondly you must follow Jesus and obey his commands, Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.”

So when you believe in Jesus, then ,and only then can you be baptised into Jesus Christ’s name and begin to follow him.

The Bible has all the information for God’s free offer about living a life in Christ and the kingdom of God.

Miracles Today (L048)

Other meditations have talked about God’s power, and how He uses it, and that also, He allowed some of the disciples to use His Holy Spirit as a witness that He was pleased with their service to His Son, and Himself. The miracles that they did were truly stupendous! The healing they could perform, were better than the best hospital today! They even brought the dead back to life, and could speak in different languages, without ever having learned them. God’s Spirit also gave them the ability to give accurate forecasts of the future, both in the near future and long term prophecy.

Today we don’t see, or hear of this sort of thing do we? There are a lot of people today who claim to have the gift of the Holy Spirit: the question is what do they do with it? Most, when questioned, say ‘It isn’t like that.’ it’s a feeling inside them that makes them feel that God approves of them. But the Holy Spirit was given in the first century to show people that the man they were listening to had God’s blessing: and should be listened to.

On the day of Pentecost, the shocked crowd said, “Men and brethren what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent, and be baptised every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Peter then said,” the promise is unto you,(personal) and to your children (The next generation) and to all that are afar off. (3000 were, many from Jerusalem and Judea, but the rest were from all over the Roman Empire and would take Christianity with them to scattered people).

Paul wrote to the Corinthians in his 1st letter chapter 13 v 8 saying, “ prophecies will come to an end, tongues will cease, and even knowledge was to vanish, (Probably when Church and state were joined.) When you read the Acts and epistles you find only the apostles had all the gifts of the spirit, and they were the only ones to give a gift to each church member. It is Paul in 1 Corinthians 12 v 7 to 11 who says that they had one gift each.

All this indicate that within 100 years, the Holy spirit gifts were coming to an end.

A few today still believe they have the gift of healing, but when they are asked what they do with it, they talk vaguely about ‘bad backs, knees ‘etc. If you ask them to accompany you into the local main shopping area, and tell them you hope they will give the use of legs back to young men, who have to come shopping on mobility scooters, after having had accidents at work, or car, bike, or diving accidents. The one claiming to have the Holy Spirit gift to heal soon disappear with some excuse.

Even in John’s days there were false miracle workers, The apostle warns, “Believe not every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” (1 John 4 v 1) We know there is only one God, so we expect that He will give only one message of salvation, and the only place we can find that message from God is in His word the Bible.

So the main test is, do these people believe what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit gifts? If they choose only to believe in bits of the Bible it is with sorrow I say, ‘We can’t play about with God’s word, we must either accept all of it, or discard it all!

Gods Golden Age (L047)

What was it like, when God created the world? Well ….

Once upon a time, …….. along time ago …. …. in a far off land . . there was a beautiful garden. The flowers were in richer colours than you have ever seen,

the butterflies floated along like radiant scraps of silk and the birds flashed through the air like sparkling jewels. The animals were all gentle and loving and the weather was always warm and kind, and it never rained!

There were all manner of fruit and nut trees, so food was just there for the picking. In this garden lived the first man and woman, they were young and athletic; he was tall and handsome while she was slim and beautiful. The fresh air gave their complexions a glow that you never see these days, and they were very happy. They had only one rule………..

In the middle of the garden stood a majestic tree with beautiful fruit which may have added to its beauty by the delicious aroma that came from the fruit. They thought it must be as good as it looked, birds pecked the fruit every day and lions, cows, crocodiles etc. ate the fallen fruit all the time. But the man and woman were forbidden to eat it. Eventually that young woman ate one and her husband joined her

. . . . after that sad things began to happen….but that is a story for another day.

Do you know that the garden was called ‘Paradise’? How would you like to live there?

You can! . . . . . But not just yet. God has promised that the real golden age will come again, not on some far away planet, but here on this earth. It will cover a large area and some people will live there while others will visit for a time.

Wars and violence will have ended, everywhere, by command! Pain and sorrow will have ceased altogether, through the real power of God’s love. Jesus Christ will be the new King. He will be kind to those who want to live a good life, but pass judgment on the wicked.

You can be part of the organisation of the world when the Lord Jesus comes, but there will still be rules to live by for the mortals who are subjects of this new Kingdom. Now these rules are called the ‘Commandments of Christ’. Jesus said, You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.” If you want to know more about being a friend of Jesus: listen to our Bible Line messages, his demands aren’t difficult, we have to believe, be baptised, remember him in the bread and wine at the ‘Memorial Service each Sunday, and love all his friends, and try to do good to those in need in the world.

The Beginning of Time (L045)

We are starting a new year, new beginnings, soon we will see the first snowdrops, and new lambs in the fields. We have seen it all before, when did it all start? Many people believe that it has all come about by chance – Evolution they call it. In fact they teach evolution in schools and colleges as though it were true.

But is it? Almost everybody has heard something about the ‘missing link’ ……… Darwin expected that soon after his death, ‘missing links’ would be turning up in huge numbers in every species ……….. NOT ONE HAS BEEN FOUND IN 100 YEARS.

Evolutionists say, ”Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, a lot of untidy molecules wandering about in the sea, tidied themselves up into a neat organised cell that didn’t know what it was to become next!” No one can agree as to where the story goes from there!

Astronomers now say that the whole universe, galaxies, stars, and planets came into being by design; that a great and powerful designer brought the universe into being.

They also say that the Big Bang is not possible!

The evolutionists want hundreds of millions of years, of slow change, which should still be happening! But has anyone ever known one animal change into another? Scientists have bred Fruit Flies, during the equivalent of millions of generations with every type of contamination that has changed their size, number of wings etc. But left to breed, they are still Fruit Flies. One scientist said,” If Fruit Flies cannot be changed permanently nothing can.”

So is there a more sensible answer? Of course there is, the Bible tells us God created the universe and everything in it. Genesis chapter 1 is in the right order for the appearance of life, and God specifically says that everything He created was an unalterable ‘kind’ i.e. dogs = dogs = dogs, as fruit flies, bees, and every living creature is ‘after his kind.’ God made them separately and they have remained separated. Everything within its kind can be bred to change it i.e. dogs, horses, cows etc, but only in their kind.

So the description in the Bible explains the beginning of things more sensibly than the so-called ‘experts’.

The Destiny of The World (L044)

One day Jesus Christ will be King here on earth, ruling over all the world.

But when?

And can we expect him soon? When this talk is finished, would you open your Bible, if you have one, and read Daniel chapter 2. Here you will find the story of a dream that was important to a king called Nebuchadnezzar. God had sent him this dream of future events.

It was a strange dream which awakened him, but then Nebuchadnezzar found he’d no recollection of it! The king had a great many fortune tellers, astrologers, magicians, and wise men, he called them all into his bedroom in the middle of the night; saying to them, “I’ve had an awesome dream, but I’ve forgotten it! So you must tell the dream to me and tell me what it means.” They couldn’t tell him what he had dreamed! That was impossible! The king was so angry, he commanded, “Take these men away and tomorrow execute the whole lot of them.”

Now Daniel, who had been taken hostage to Babylon, but now was a student ‘wise man’ at a college, found the king’s decree applied to him and his friends as well. Daniel asked the Captain of the Guards to take him immediately to see the king. He told the king his God was a revealer of secrets, and given a little time He would tell Daniel the dream.

God revealed the dream was of a huge statue. The head was of gold. The chest and arms were of silver. The middle and thighs were of bronze. The legs were of iron. The feet were a mix of iron and clay. As Nebuchadnezzar had looked in puzzlement at this statue, a stone came out of a cliff face without any human help, it hit the statue on its feet which disintegrated and as the statue dropped down the stone ground the statue to powder which blew away. The stone began to swell till it filled the whole world.

Daniel told the king what the dream meant; the head of gold was the king himself, who was ruling the first empire of the western world, including Israel. Following his empire was to be another, this was the silver, great Persian Empire. Then the bronze which was the Greeks under Alexander the Great. The two iron legs were the fourth empire of Rome. Then the feet, strong and weak, there were to be no longer great Empires, only a mixture of nations, some strong some weak.

Daniel told the king there was more to tell, for in the times of these strong and weak nations, God himself will set up a kingdom, which will grow to encompass all the world. This is a real kingdom with a real king, and you can be part of it. Since most of this dream has already come true we can be certain the rest of it will also come true, as have most other prophecies to do with the same subject.

Gods Coming Kingdom (L043)

Isn’t the world in a mess and wouldn’t you like to do something about it? Of course you would! Well the Bible has a real message of hope for you. As this three minute talk can only be a brief introduction, we have an offer of a free booklet, which we will tell you about at the end of the talk.

Firstly God’s Kingdom is coming. Yes! right here to Britain and in all parts of the earth and the capital will be Jerusalem, where the king will be. It will be a Kingdom where the King makes the laws and rules with authority, power and justice over all the mortal population of the earth.

For thousands of years men have tried various forms of rulers and democracies and look where we are in 2011! We have more war, civil war and violent crime than ever before. But the Kingdom of God ruled by Jesus Christ will be different. Evil and dangerous people will be removed from society, “the child shall die at 100 years old, but the sinner being 100 years old shall be accursed.” (Isaiah 65 v 20) one of our greatest freedoms will be restored – the freedom from fear. This is one of man kinds greatest needs, “none shall make them afraid,” (Micah 4 v 1 to 7 see v 4) “he shall save the children of the needy, and break in pieces the oppressor.” Psalm72 v 4

Another blessing will be that food will be plentiful in supply; no longer will parts of Africa be uncertain as to when their next meal might be. But in this real Kingdom of God, crops will even grow on tops of mountains (Psalm72 v 16).

Many people now suffer awful disablements and diseases. But in this Kingdom the servants of King Jesus will send them to Jerusalem where they will find ‘Trees for the healing of the nations’ to heal them. Pain and suffering will also come to an end. The immortals working with Jesus in the Kingdom cannot die again; the mortal population are to live hundreds of years as the early fathers did (Genesis 5). After 1000 years of God’s Kingdom, there is to be a second raising of the dead and judgment of all the mortals who have lived and died in the time of the Kingdom. (Rev. 20 v 5 and v 11 to 15) Then there will be” no more death” (Rev. 21 v 4).

Do you want to be part of this Kingdom? Do you want to see the world a safe and happy place? I’m sure you do! And you can be; but to be part of it, means you have to do something about it now.

What Happens When You Die?

What happens when we die. Is there indeed ‘Life after death?’ What does the Bible say? The Bible records that a man named Job said, “If a man die shall he live again?” also “All the days of my appointed time will I wait until my change come.” (Job 14 v 13 to15)

What did Job mean when he said, 1. Wait where? 2. What change?

1.Wait To answer these questions let us find out what the Bible says about the dead. It tells us that in the beginning “The LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” It follows that once the breath of life goes from man, he becomes a dead soul. The Bible tells us that: “The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything” (Ecc.9 v 1 to 6 see v 5) this quotation goes on to say, ‘even their thoughts perish.’

Let us consider: when unconscious, can we hear think speak or control our limbs, or do anything? Surely the dead are in a far worse case? Perhaps now we are near to answering the question as to the waiting place. It is the grave, variously called, Hell, or Gehenna (Hell is ‘a covered place’, i.e. a grave and Gehenna was the valley south of Jerusalem where all the city rubbish went, including unburied corpses; and where lepers found somewhere to live).

The Bible tells us that many worthy men died and ‘slept with their fathers’, including Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Also the kings of Israel, the good kings and the bad ‘slept with their fathers’ when they died. It seems the Bible is telling us, that all the dead go to one place; as Ecc. 9 v 1 to 6 and Psalm 49 v 12 and 20 says, “Man that is in honour, and understands not, is like the beasts that perish.” Referring to the dead as ‘sleeping’, is quite common in the Bible; in John 11 v 11 Jesus tells his disciples, ‘Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go that I may awake him out of his sleep.’ But because his disciples misunderstood him he said plainly ‘Lazarus is dead.’

The Change, that the man Job spoke of ; Again the Bible tells us; the promise to the faithful of all ages is to partake of the Divine nature, and I wish you to notice that the apostle Peter (in 1 Peter 1 v 3) was anxious to pass on this knowledge before he died, knowing that after his death, he would have no more contact with the living. Jesus spoke of this change, promised to believers, to be ‘equal to the angels and to die no more.’ (Luke 20 v 34 to 38) So then every believer waits in the grave until the return of Jesus Christ, and the resurrection of the dead. Then this Change takes place. If Jesus comes before we die, we can be changed and never die.

The Crucifixion of Jesus, Why? (L041)

Every year, at the time of the Easter Holiday, many people remember that Jesus was cruelly crucified by the Romans and the Jews.

Yet, as he was such a good, kind man, WHY WAS HE CRUCIFIED? WHY DID HE DIE AT ALL?

Firstly. He died to save us – He died because he was human, like you and me, and it was important that he knew just how we feel as we face death. (Hebrews 4 v 14 to16)

Secondly. Although Jesus never made a mistake – – – – – he could have! Mankind has an unclean nature — – – and God cannot accept any unclean thing into His Kingdom. (Philippians 3 vv20+21 )

Consequently the unclean part of Jesus’ body, his blood had to be destroyed so that God could give him a new and perfectly energised body. (Hebrews 5 v7 to 9)

Again. Jesus had no sins of his own,

so he died for our sins. Of course we must still die – – –

so we too can receive a newly energised body for God’s Kingdom. (Romans12 v 1 and 2)

But what about us? We. in addition, need confidence in God – This is called FAITH.

But once we have confidence in God’s way, then we can be baptised. By baptism, symbolically we share in the death and resurrection of Jesus. (Romans 6 v 3 and 4)

If we live this life as Jesus commanded us to do; showing our faith in Breaking Bread and Drinking Wine in remembrance of him (1 Corinthians 11 v 24 to 26) , and loving one another, as he loves us, (John 13 v 34) we can hope in the mercy of God to be found a place in His Kingdom. (1 Peter 1 v 3 and 4)

Jesus said he would come back again (Acts 1 v 10 and 11) and will give to every disciple according as his life has been.

The Bible, A Book For Practical People (L040)

The Bible was written for people in general, not often for politicians or professors, but for you and your next door neighbour. After all it was to people like us that Jesus was preaching. in the gospel of Mark we read, ”The common people heard him gladly.”

What sort of practical problems does the Bible answer? Obviously it doesn’t tell you much about how to build a house extension, grow better roses, make clothes or pass exams. Although in each case it does say a bit, since people have been doing these things for thousands of years.

No! The Bible gives practical answers to more basic problems than this:

How should I bring up my children?

How can husbands and wives live more happily together?

or even: How ought we to choose our partner in the first place?

or, what is the secret of a contented life?

Today we have to be politically correct, regardless as to what our conscience tells us. This is because Bible answers are unfashionable.

For we should not only be kind to our children,

but firm as well, and we should set our children a good example, and expect them to follow it.

Or again: the secret of a contented life is to obey God first. You probably feel these are not very practical suggestions; but thousands of people today, and for hundreds of years, have found the Bible to be the best guide to a contented life, that can be found.

Why don’t you start to read it today? We suggest you start with the gospels of Mark and Luke, and then go onto the Acts.

The Devil Is Dead! (L039)

The devil is dead! This may be a surprising statement to many people, but this is just what the Bible tells us!

The apostle wrote: “Since the children share in the flesh and blood of their parents, Jesus also shared the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.”

So if the devil was destroyed at the crucifixion of Jesus  – –  why is the world still full of sin and death? — — — — —- —- —– —- Because sin and wickedness come from the hearts of men,

James says, “Everyman is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.                 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin, and when sin is finished it brings forth death.

So we can’t blame our sins on anyone else! — – –  — — They’re all our own fault!

So what does the Bible mean when it speaks of the devil or satan or Beelzebub?  It uses these names as a sort of parable to help us to understand how sin works against us. In a similar way, Wisdom is described as a woman who helped God at the creation.

In the language of the Hebrew Old Testament, and the Greek New Testament, satan was anybody who was in opposition, whether to God or a  human being. Jesus once called Peter a satan and the Apostle Paul warned that women in the church must not become satans or enemies of the Truth of God’s word.

Consequently the sins that embarrass us are our own responsibility: and the result of these sins is eternal death, unless you are willing to do something about your life. How can we over come sin? Unfortunately we can’t.  The only man ever to live a completely sinless life was Jesus himself. So if you believe in the resurrection of the dead, and if you try to put sin behind you and begin to obey the commandments of Christ. Bible teaching will not only help you now, but Jesus will release you from the sentence of death, and call you from the grave on the Day of Resurrection.

Star In The East (L038)

When you look up on a clear night, how many stars can you see? Probably less than 2000! Do you think the stars can influence us? Well I have no reason to think so!

But there are two stars that really have affected mankind. One was a bright star over Bethlehem, over 2000 years ago. We sing a Christmas carol,

“Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, Dawn on our darkness and lend us thine aid,

Star of the east the horizon adorning, Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.”

That star brought joy and hope to this world, but the increase in wars, famines, floods, hurricanes and terror can make that joy and hope seen futile. But the joy and hope is in the hearts of only a few out of the six billion people on earth. The problems in each country seem unsolvable whether the countries are republics, democracies or dictatorships.

The star over Bethlehem signalled the beginning of Christianity but what are the churches like now? They are just as confused as the politicians:-

No real leadership or clear stand on morals

Trying to accommodate every new mode of living into the priesthood

Only a vague view of future World problems

But there is a new star over Bethlehem today – – – – the six pointed star of Israel, sometimes known as the Star of David, the national symbol of the Jewish nation

How did this come about? It came into being because God said Israel was to be regathered as one nation.

Firstly the Bible says, that the Jews would be scattered and persecuted, “A Valley of dry bones.’ ‘Can these bones live?’ ‘Oh. LORD only you know that.’ Then the Bible says that after a long time they would be regathered in their own land ‘They lived and stood upon their feet an exceedingly great army.’ ‘These are the bones of the whole house of Israel’

‘I shall place you in your own land.’” (Ezekiel 37 v 1 to 3,v 10, 11 and 14)

Jesus told of the signs when the New Kingdom was about to appear and then that his return to this earth would be imminent. Luke 21 v 25 to 33 I am only going to quote from v 29 and 30, “Jesus spake to them a parable; behold the fig tree and all the trees; when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.” The ‘fig tree’ symbolises Israel and from 1948, when Israel was recognised as a new state to join the U.N. until 2003, 80 new states all with trees as part of their insignia joined the U.N. fulfilling Jesus’ prophecy in Luke 21. So I hope you see that Israel’s regathering is important in the Old Testament and the New Testament, it is all part of God’s purpose with the earth.

The Bible says that ‘ The meek shall inherit the earth.’ So if you want a new life in God’s Kingdom, you need to know what to do now, and the Bible gives the answers.

Will The Jews Ever Achieve Peace? (L036)

The news from Israel is not good; it hardly ever is! The Jews and Arabs have been difficult ‘neighbours’ for 60 years; in those 60 years the Arabs have declared war against Israel four times, in 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973, they tried to keep the Jews from coming into Israel ‘on mass’ a few thousand was all right! When they came in plane fulls and shipfulls, and the first million, then the second and third millions found homes and a good life, the Arab nations repeatedly sent united armies to drive them into the sea, to no avail! Then some Arab nations made ‘some sort’ of peace with Israel, which they try to keep to. Then suicide bombers took over, bringing violence and terror. They were followed by Indiscriminate shelling from Gaza.

Will the Jews ever achieve peace; after all the Jews are supposed to be God’s people, so what is God doing? Is He ever going to organise peace for them?

Firstly we need to ask, ‘Are the majority of Jews truly Gods people?’ He said, “Ye (meaning the Jews) are my witnesses and my servant whom I have chosen;’ and again ‘Woman may even forget her baby, yet I will never forget you” and again: “I formed you, you are my servant O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me” (Isaiah 43 v 10, Isaiah 4 v 9 and 15, Isaiah 44 v 21)

The Bible is also quite clear that Israel is a Jewish land and God intends the Jews to live there.

But what of the future? The problem is largely the Jews themselves; because they have been honoured as God’s chosen people, He expects a higher standard of obedience to His laws and this is clearly not happening. Most Israelis are only nominally religious and a large minority are not interested in God’s opinions at all. Consequently they are going to be taught that God is in charge of their existence in His land.

The Islamic nations will become so exasperated, that they are going to attempt to destroy Israel again, using a much larger pan-Islamic force and it seems from Zechariah 14 v 12 that they will have atomic weaponry among their armaments. They will over run Israel from the northern border and slaughtering as they go driving the Israelite army into the southern deserts.

God will send them a Saviour who will drive out those enemies of Israel mainly by using nature’s forces and turn their armaments against themselves. So will the Jews ever achieve peace? Both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’- – – ‘No’ by their own efforts, and ‘Yes’ when they eventually and wholeheartedly appeal to God.

Now all this can involve you as well, and we all want to be on God’s side, the winning side!

The Christian & War (L035)

When the Queen speaks to the nation at Christmas, she hopes that peace will be emerging in all war torn areas of the world. But is this possible? Can it happen?

What about the potential for war in the Middle East; or the possibility of atomic weapons becoming available from Iran. It seems Iran will, both sell to whoever wants atomic weapons, and can afford them: that is when Iran owns up to having made atomic bombs!

Christians can easily become involved in warfare, if only as stretcher bearers. (Even stretcher bearers are handed a gun in dire emergencies.)

The British army has padres and church ministers who encourage the soldiers to do their best in the coming conflict. These religious ministers also bless guns, tanks and warships before they set out on their missions. – – – – Can this be right?

Most people know that Christians often talk about love. Jesus, himself said: “A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another.” What does this mean in practice?

Should we only love the people in our own church and family?

Jesus quite bluntly said, “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And to him that smites you on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that takes away your cloak do not forbid to take your coat as well. Give to every man that asks you; and if he takes away your goods, don’t ask for them. As you would like men to do to you, do the same to them. (read Luke 6 v 27 to 36) How can anyone who claims to be a Christian, join the army to fight with and kill people?

Even when it comes to defending yourself and your family; Jesus said, “You have heard that it has been said: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, but I say unto you that you do not resist evil.”

But this is just the beginning of an important subject that ends with peace on earth in the Kingdom of God.

Life After Death, Is It For You? (L034)

Do you know someone who is very gifted? A clever scientist perhaps? Or an enchanting musician? Or maybe a really caring person? A dedicated nurse? Or a loving mother?

Doesn’t it seem a pity, that all that skill and compassion might be lost forever?

Of course, many people believe that they won’t die – – – -some say that the spirits of the dead continue their existence somehow, somewhere. While others believe that our personality transfers to another newborn creature.

What is it that the Bible says? After all this is an important subject; and the Bible is God’s book.

The first thing we learn is that people die! Adam, the very first man, was told that if he disobeyed God, then he would be under the sentence of death. (Genesis 2 v 16 and 17)

The prophet Ezekiel says, “The soul that sins, it shall die.” (18 v 4, 19 and 20)

What does ‘death’ mean? Does it really mean the transfer of our life to somewhere else?

The Bible says, “In death there is no remembrance of God, in the grave, who shall give Him thanks?” (Ps. 6 v 5) “For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything.”

(Ecc. 9 v 5)

So does this mean that death is the end? CERTAINLY NOT! In Romans 6 v 23 we read, “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Note carefully, we all do things that we are ashamed of, we get our wages for the lives we live, we die, but if God is pleased with our life He will raise us from the dead and give us eternal life.

Have you been properly associated with Jesus Christ, to receive God’s gift?

Have you publically confessed your faith in Jesus?

Have you been baptised into Jesus’ name for the forgiveness of your sins?

Do you obey the commands Jesus left for us, and become one of his friends?

If you say “No” to any of the above questions

Storm Clouds Over Israel (L032)

Isn’t it odd that Israel is in the news nearly every week? After all it’s about the same size as Wales; how often is Wales in the World’s news? It also is in the centre of the Middle-East and we have been told recently that Iraq will supply the Hezbollah Palestinians with missiles that travel 80 miles to their target, which means that from the Gaza Strip they could bomb as far away as Tiberias and Haifa!

On the other hand Egypt is proposing to blow up the entrances to all the tunnels they can find going from Egypt to Gaza, this will cut off their present route for missiles and other types of ammunition that they have been using against Israel.

Is there any hope for peace for Israel? Unfortunately not while many of the Arab nations are still determined to push ‘the Israelis into the sea’ : they are fulfilling Bible prophecy which says, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation ; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.” (Psalm 83 v 4)

So far the Arab nations have tried four times to drive Israel out of the land, (1948, 1956, 1967, 1973), but they have failed each time. Why? After all the Arab armies out-number Israel 22 to1. The answer is, God has said, ”They shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob My servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt : and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince.”

This promise of God isn’t going to stop the Arab nations from trying to oust them, and soon they will try again. This time, when all seems lost for Israel; the Lord Jesus Christ will appear as their conquering King — — — — — and by using the forces of nature he will turn the Arabs’ atomic weapons upon themselves. If you look into Zechariah’s prophecy in chapter 14 and verse 4 he comes again to the Mount of Olives as Acts 1 v 11 foretold, and in v 5 he and the resurrected saints are going to stop the war, v 11 “there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.” But in v 12, as with the Hiroshima bomb, anyone looking up, watching the bomb’s descent and it’s explosion in mid air “they shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.”

I am sure that we all want to be on the LORD’s side in that day, nobody who knows what the future holds for those who choose to fight with God’s King will want to be supporting them when God judges them.

Jesus Gives Today News (L031)

Do you know that Jesus forecast the happenings in Israel in the twentieth and twenty first century?

Jesus was speaking to his disciples (we have the record in Matthew 24) and told them that shortly all the lovely buildings in the temple area of Jerusalem which they were looking at would be completely destroyed. They asked him: “When shall all these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” His answer not only gave a forecast for them, but also for us today. As a clue he gave us a little picture story: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees; as soon as they put out their leaves you can see for yourselves that summer is almost here. So also when you see these things happen, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near.”

Now from other places in the Bible we know that the fig tree is a symbol for Israel; and that the other trees are other nations. Israel only re-emerged as a nation in 1948, but since then over eighty other independent states have joined the United Nations as full member states, and each of these new nations has a tree as is symbol of nationhood.

Here indeed are all the trees putting out their leaves.

Jesus also said, “Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” So when did the Israelis re-take Jerusalem? In 1967!

So we can be quite sure Jesus is talking about our news today. I can’t cover all Jesus’ Mount of Olives prophecy in three minutes. But suddenly, when Israel appears to be doomed, the situation will unexpectedly change, the invading armies will be driven back.

If you open your Bible at Matthew 24 or Luke 21 you will find Jesus’ complete prophecy; including, “And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these thing begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads; for your redemption draws nigh.”

Watch Israel (L030)

The Jews are God’s witnesses to the existence of God

In A.D.70, the Jews who survived the siege of Jerusalem were sold into the slave markets of the Roman Empire. Then in A.D.135 the Jews were driven out of Jerusalem and Judea, to live where they could find gainful occupation. Some of them became vital to the wars of Europe, as Bankers, financing the wars, but they and the rest of their nation were persecuted sporadically, but often the persecution ended in their death (in England in York Castle in 1190, 500 men women and children after a three day siege, were massacred). No one wanted their sons or daughters to marry a Jew; and the Jews did not want their offspring marrying a Gentile (A non-Jew).

Then during the First World War (1914 to1918) the Ottoman Empire was broken up by the allies, and they were driven out of what is now Israel. Hitler’s hatred of the Jews, and all non-Arians, resulted in the concentration camps with six million Jews, and three million Poles and Gypsies being murdered. One, incidental result of World War II was that once the concentration camps were found, and the remaining Jews and others freed; the Jews wanted to go somewhere safe. After nearly 2000 years, the Jews, a recognisable group of people chose to return to the land of their fathers.

It has been unheard of in world history, that a nation, expelled from its own country for a few hundred years, let alone nearly 2000, have been able to return and settle back in their land. As we started by saying, ‘The Jews witness to the existence of God.’

Jewish dreams came true because God intended it to happen. It is part of His declared purpose; He made promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob concerning that land. He promised King David a descendant who would reign on his throne forever. This resurrection of Israel as a state in 1948 is a sure sign that the coming of the Messiah is near. God’s plan will culminate In Messiah’s glorious reign from Jerusalem, with Israel the nucleus of his world wide Kingdom.

Our expectation is truly described as “The Hope of Israel”, because of it we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, perhaps you pray for the same too. We make this call to Jews and Christians to share our hope of eternal life in God’s promised Kingdom. Israel is the key to understanding God’s plan, so we say “Watch Israel”. However we recognize that many of the activities of modern Israel are not in accord with God’s plan

If you would like a free booklet on “The Coming World Empire” Please leave your name and state your full address clearly after the beep, we will also send you a printed copy of this talk. We make no charge for any of our publications, God’s message is free to all.

What Is God’s Plan For The Future? (L029)

The whole world has many serious problems, no one can deny this; starvation and wars, with now flooding and disease, fires, earthquakes and tsunamis; all of these, rulers and governments seem unable to find a solution for.

God has a plan for this world and for the people upon it. He has, in the Bible, promised the return of Jesus Christ; not just to rule Israel, but the whole world. There are a number of scripture passages which tell of the soon return to this world of Jesus Christ, of his rulership, and his solutions to all the world’s problems. Here are just a few of them:-

Acts 1 v 11 “This same Jesus, which is taken from you up into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven.”

Please read 2nd Thessalonians 1 v 7 to 10,

Then in Psalm 72 it speaks of the Kingdom to come, ”There shall be a handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains, the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: (In 1000 B.C. Lebanon, north of Israel was an extremely fertile land) and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.” (v 16) “He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.” (v 13) This psalm, written partly for Solomon, has an obviously wider application for an immortal king, “In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endures.” (v7) “all nations shall serve him” (v 11b)

So Jesus is alive now, and only his coming back to this earth can bring about an end to all the havoc, pollution, evil miss-rule that mankind causes, or suffers under. When Jesus returns, he has no need to fear any of the rulers of the earth, we see in Matthew 28 v 18 that “All authority in heaven and in earth has been given unto him.”

Some governments will challenge Jesus at his return; please read Psalm2, especially v 2.There are to be judgments made against all those who oppose him. Will you please read Isaiah chapter 34 and Revelation 19 v 11 to 21: the Lord Jesus is to rule as king of Kings and Lord of Lords; see also Revelation 17 v 14 and Zechariah 14 v 16 and Isaiah 2 v 1 to 4. He is to rule from Jerusalem when he returns.
